Maybe it's just me (and I'm likely overanalyzing this), but I find this one confusing -- Jon is contradicting himself by saying he has no online friends (not "Okay, I don't actually have tons of online friends", but no friends at all), then, as a response to Garfield, he says he does have some online friends. Maybe we could suppose that he was exaggerating in panel 2, but that's a stretch. Considering the author's note, that would also mean he does not hold those few connections important.
I think this would work better if off- and online friends were switched, i.e. "I have tons of offline friends! - Okay, I have no offline friends! Kinda like your online life - Well, I have some online friends...". Or, to keep on- and offline as they are, if he said something like "Okay, I have almost no online friends!" in panel two, or "Well, actually, I do have some online friends after all..." in panel three.
