Royal Navy sailors did in fact get a share of the loot from enemy ships or cargoes they captured (legally)! This was known as prize money (a captured ship being a "prize") and could be a major incentive for voluntary recruitment. A captain with a record of claiming many or rich prizes would find it a lot easier to crew his ship, especially with skilled/experienced sailors. You can see it as a recurring plot point in the Hornblower or Aubrey-Maturin novels.
Of course, the share an individual would receive depended on his rank, but if he stays as a bosun Dirque should get a decent amount.
